I've been doing self-portraits for a few years now, ever since I stumbled upon the work of Janelle Putrich, though I've never been very consistent about it. My self-portraits were driven entirely by random bursts of inspiration and it wasn't until a few days ago that I realized that I had created a self-portrait at least once a month for ten out of the twelve months. And I'm proud of that.
I love that I can look back and see both my confidence growing and my story being told. Each image reminds me of who I was at that point in time. It's a healing practice, a time of freedom and experimentation. It's something I hope I will always do because I don't want to look back one day and realize that I have no documentation of who I was. So, here's a glimpse of who I was in 2017. I look forward to sharing who I am in 2018.
Have you tried your hand at self-portraiture? Share below, I'd love to see!
